Thread and connections for water cooling

In the field of water cooling, there are various connections and threads, which have different advantages and disadvantages. Within a water cooling system, different thread and connection types can be used without any problems..

Threads

In our online store we offer a wide range of connections, adapters, connectors and quick connectors with different thread sizes and types. In the water cooling systems and cooling units we design and produce, we usually use connections with BSP/G threads, for example in the thread sizes 1/8-inch or also 1/4-inch. Below you will find some information about threads which are frequently used and offered by us:

BSP/G (British Standard Pipe)

BSP/G-Gewinde (British Standard Pipe)

The British Standard Pipe (BSP) thread is one of the Whitworth threads, which were named after the British Sir Josep Whitworth. Josep Whitworth introduced the world's first thread standardization in 1841.

The BSP thread is given the abbreviation "G" and is a non-self-sealing inch thread according to DIN ISO 228-1 G with a flank angle of 55°. Both the internal and external threads have a parallel or cylindrical thread form and require a sealant for the seal - often in the form of a sealing O-ring.

BSPT/R (British Standard Pipe Taper)

The British Standard Pipe Taper thread - BSPT for short - also belongs to the Whitworth threads and is given the abbreviation "R". The thread is often sealed by the use of hemp or Teflon tape. Unlike the BSP/G thread, the BSPT/R thread has a tapered or conical thread.

Metric

Metrische Gewinde

The metric thread is used as standard in industry worldwide, although these are used rather rarely in refrigeration plants and refrigeration systems. The thread is also called standard thread and has a flank angle of 60°.

In refrigeration plants, the metric thread is mainly used for very small connections (e.g. DN3 to DN5).

SAE (Society-of-Automotive-Engineers)

SAE-Gewinde (Society-of-Automotive-Engineers)

The American SAE thread is a metal-sealing screw-in thread with a flank angle of 60°, which does not require any additional sealants.

SAE threads are primarily used in Germany in refrigeration systems, whereby the SAE thread corresponds geometrically to the UNF thread - both threads can be converted into each other. Example: A 3/8 inch SAE thread corresponds to a 5/8 inch 18 UNF thread.

Connections in the water cooling

We use a variety of connections in our high-quality water cooling systems to ensure optimal routing of the hose in the system. When choosing the appropriate connections, in addition to the thread, the area of application, the size suitable for the selected hose and the type of connection are also important. We offer the following connection types, among others:

Straight and angled connections

In addition to straight connections, we also offer angled connections in our online store. These play their strengths especially with little space or a necessary flexibility of the alignment.

Most of the connections are made of nickel-plated brass, which results in excellent stability and durability. Nickel-plated connections are also less reactive with coolants and other metals, which also contributes to a long service life of the cooling system.

Connectors and adapters

Connectors and adapters in the water cooling

If the right connection is not always available, connectors and adapters can be used to remedy the situation. For example, an adapter can be used to change to the required thread in order to install the desired connection.

Connectors are - similar to the adapters - practical helpers, for example, to connect two connections with each other. Two hoses (of different sizes) can also be brought together with a connector.

Quick release fasteners

Quick release fasteners in the water cooling

Quick release fasteners usually consist of a plug nipple as well as a coupling to remove one or more components from the cooling system with as little leakage as possible. Quick release fasteners are often used for the easiest possible maintenance of the cooling system or the system to be cooled.

In our range, we offer a variety of high-quality quick release fasteners made of plastic and metal, including those from the manufacturers CPC and Lüdecke.
