Corrosion protection and bio-infestation in the water cooling

The optimal protection of a water cooling system is elementary so that it fulfills its task as long as possible. In the case of water cooling of technical devices (computers, 3D printers, servers, ...) as well as small and large (industrial) systems, corrosion protection and protection against bioburden must be ensured.

What causes corrosion in a water cooling system?

In the area of water cooling, this primarily applies to the contact of water with the components of the cooling system. Damage that occurs again and again is, for example, pumps failing prematurely, defective coolers and heat exchangers (radiators) as well as clogging of components (heat exchangers, pumps, ...) within the cooling circuit.

What does biofouling do in a water cooling system?

Biobefall in der WasserkühlungA bio-infestation exists when a deposit (biofilm) develops on solid walls (e.g. hose) but also on metal surfaces (e.g. cooler), which can in some cases significantly reduce the performance of the cooling system. Such deposits usually show strong chemical aggressiveness, which damages the components of a water cooling system in the long run. The conditions for microorganisms are ideal in such cooling systems, as temperatures around 40 ° C promote development and there are usually no cooling systems that are sterile during assembly.

How do water cooling protect against corrosion and bioburden?

The only protection is a high-quality coolant, which protects the cooling system reliably and for as long as possible from corrosion and bioburden. With the products from the innovatek Protect family, we offer you excellent cooling liquids for different areas of application. The cooling liquids are available as concentrates for self-mixing as well as ready-to-use mixes.

The composition of our coolants is very complex due to the respective requirements. Even if the mostly used basic substance ethanediol is identical to the protective agents that are mostly used, also in the automotive sector, the protective effect is only guaranteed by the additives we have specially added. The ethanediol contained only serves to protect against bacteria - along with other additives that are also required for this. The carrier material also prevents the additives from being deposited in the event of high heat transfer (incrustation with subsequent loss of cooling capacity).

Does the coolant have to be serviced?

Normally, depending on the coolant used, the water circuit is optimally protected against corrosion and bioburden with one filling for up to two years. Maintenance is therefore not absolutely necessary and is usually limited to occasional level checks and any necessary refilling of the coolant.

Further possible measures in the course of maintenance are checking the pH value with pH test strips and the concentration with the aid of a refractometer.
